Belle Glade has a strong high school graduation rate, according to the FL Dept of Education . However, only 15.9% of the population has earned a bachelors degree or higher, per recent Census data. Based on that same data, Belle Glade's poverty rate is a little over 27%, which is double that of the entire state of FL and the United States (individually).
I believe that pursuing higher education positions an individual to achieve a better quality of life. And once many of the barriers to accomplishing these goals are removed, a student is able to focus on their studies.
As cliche as it may sound, I aspire to be the change that I want to see in my small world. I am hoping to remove anxieties around finances.

Who is eligible for this scholarship?
The scholarship is intended for graduating high school seniors in the Glades Area (Glades Central High School, Pahokee High School, Clewiston High School) . Full eligibility requirements will be announced when applications open.
Are there any restrictions on how the funds may be spent?
Approved educational expenses and any restrictions on how scholarship funds may be used will be explained in the official scholarship guidelines. The money will be paid directly to the institution.
Can students planning to attend a trade or technical school apply?
Yes, students planning on enrolling in colleges, universities, vocational programs, and trade schools are all encouraged to apply.
